TO DO

CAR

The best way to discover Ireland is to travel by car. All the more so because what is nice in Ireland is the landscape. Renting a car is expensive but necessary. Roads are extremely charming, narrow and special. Do not expect to drive fast but expect to contemplate beautiful paysages. Parking is almost impossible in Dublin and difficult in most of the towns.

STAYING IN DUBLIN

Dublin is not worth staying a long time. You will enjoy Saint Stephen’s Green and you may visit  the Irish Emigration Museum. You will admire the Jeanie Johnston vessel as a souvenir of the Irish Famine and see the way Irish peopke used to escape their country in particular during the Grande Famine. Shopping could be amusing at George’s Street Arcade. The inside is very nice: some shops for collectable items, vintage clothes, music, jewellery…. Stay at the Fitzwilliam Hotel : good prices rather chic and not far from the nice Georgian streets and houses. It has a parking. You may also visit the Guiness warehouse.  Have lunch at the Shelbourne Hotel: quite elegant, good classical food.

CONNEMARA

This is one of the most beautiful landscape and atmopshere i ever saw and on top of that we stayed in a charming little hotel owned by two brothers The atmophere was adorable and the food good. Remenber Nevins Newfield Inn! We were served by a robot and the two brothers were very proud of it. It was naive and charming. Go to Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey , Roundstone and Clifden.

TRAVELLING TO GALWAY

A tour of Ireland should include Galway and Connemara and the beautiful countryside everywhere and of course the western coast. My advice is to book in advance in nice hotels and little castles transformed in hotels:  there are a lot of tourists and you need to book realy in advance. In Galway we stayed in the G Hotel and Spa: very interesting decoration by the milliner Philip Tracy who was born there  Nice food and nice staff. For drinks go to Eyre Square.

SHANNON AND SPANISH POINT

You will cross the river and see bottlenose dolphins may be and reach the Spanish point known for its beaches ans the souvenir of the disaster of the so called Invincible Armada. You will of course admire the coast which is full of visitors.

HOTELS

TRUMP

There is a big resort belonging to the former President Trump. Good and rich place for golfers. We were well welcomed as in most of the hotels and restaurants. I bought a shirt as a souvenir. Set against a panoramic backdrop of rugged landscape and shimmering sea waves Trumps Hotels delivers incredible ocean views
