TO DO

SLEEPING:

I had a very pleasant experience by choosing to stay at the Four Seasons. Nestled along the water edge, close to the Charles Bridge, this hotel, part of which is a seventeenth century palace, boosts extremely well decorated and comfortable rooms (opt for a Renaissance style room), the service is good and friendly (I found most people in Prague friendly). The Italian restaurant is good and the breakfast is perfect (try the fresh pineapple juice).

FOOD:

Even if you’re not going to experience the culinary highlights of your life, you’ll be able to find a number of nice, amusing and particular places. In no particular order : Field (trendy, good), Palffy Palac (almost Havana: a restaurant on the second floor of a palace. Atmosphere!), Zdenek’s Oyster Bar (an oyster bar), Marina Grosseto (pizza and pasta in a large houseboat on the river), Slavia (enjoy a goulash in a 1940’s style brasserie overlooking the water).

VISITING:

What to say? You will cross the Charles Bridge (its statues!), visit the castle (huge!), stroll down the gold street (colourful houses and a lovely park), saunter through the Jewish area (the cemetery is a must!), admire the old town square, nose in the air (the clock!) and under no circumstances miss the Convent of Stahov (library!).

SHOPPING

You find everything in Prague, all the luxury boutiques and even a decent outlet: Fabigous: Prada, Cucinelli, Moschino ... ..)

ART

They are more or less all gathered in the «new city”, an oft rebuilt 14th century urban project, connecting embankment and river, merging beautiful avenues, narrow streets, squares and statues as well as cafes, bars, galleries obviously, and antique dealers (Antik Mucha is very good). Do not miss the Hollar and Kodl galleries (the latter has a large selection of engravings).

CONCEPT

I really liked the selection at the ARTEL concept stores, fusing modernism, entertainment and tradition (a Smer toys retrospective). Get hold of their Prague guide (extremely detailed) and their ArtMap. And, of course, do some shopping!

CRUISING

A boat ride takes only an hour but is fun! To do!

GAY

Bars and Go-Go-Boys clubs. Quirky and fun. Dodgy but laid-back!
