CITY

Palermo is the main city of Sicily, the biggest island of Mediterranean Sea. Conquered many times the city has kept the traces of Arab as well as Europeans invasions. Everywhere the Byzantine Normand style is present.

THEATER & OPERA

A magnificent late 19th-century theatre on Piazza Politeama can accommodate 5000 people (architect Damian Almeyda)
and the opera Massimo (Liberty style by architect Basile) is also worth seeing.

STREETS

From the theatre you can go to famous pedestrian streets Via Bara and Via dell’Orologio and reach Olivelle
Palermo’ historic night Life district. Poor,  lively,  strange , dangerous,  interesting.

QUATTRO CONTI

This octogonal place with  richly decorated and quite striking facades divides

the old city in 4 districts. Worth seing. Could be cleaned!

VERGOGNA

An enormous fountain is the center of that square and occupies most of it.
It was bought for a fortune to Firenze and its name is a nickname by reference to its cost .

VUCCIARA

Famous old and lively
 

DEL GESU

Marble is everywhere and that stunning piece of art has needed 200 years
for being finished Not to miss! Really a Masterpiece !

MARTURANA

Byzantine Normand style done and changed several times

MONDELLO

Stunning village with Liberty style villas, white sand and blue water.
However to be avoided in high season. Too many people bars and pizzas !
 

STREET ART

Palermo is famous also for its modernity and life Including
street art and political messages.
