TRAIN
On arrival in Kyoto there’s a team waiting to clean the compartment! Mind-blowing!
AIRBNB
We rented a house divided into 2 small houses. A fun experience but we quickly realized that it was difficult to adapt to the selection of products to be able to shop and cook at home.
BAR
In the geisha district (Gion) the trendy bar Finland serves whiskey with a massive carved ice cube.
GEISHAS
Theres a huge neighborhood, Gion, where there are almost no more geishas. We met some but weren’t allowed to photograph them. They escorted older gentlemen. The neighborhood has a truly alluring atmosphere !
PALACE
The Imperial Palace and its magnificent park is a must see. The wooden floors in the corridors, that rustle when you walk on them, are remarkable. This was supposed to prevent the Emperor from being murdered in his sleep.
TEMPLES
Obviously one of the main reasons to visit Kyoto. Some of the most interesting have beautiful gardens and one of them (Fushimi Inari Taisha) is really worth seeing at sunset! Note that in this set the orange-colored portico (torii) is financed by wealthy businessmen who buy themselves the glory and the heaven. There are 10,000!
DRINK
At the end of the day, take a stroll along the river.
MARKET
A huge indoor market offers all kinds of food products and leads to the shopping malls. Not to be missed under any circumstances. Note the beautiful painted shutters!
