ARISTOCRATIC 

Capital of a kingdom that has known periods of glory and has stood up to the Russia of the czars and to continental alliances, the town is the reflection of these past splendours that can be preserved thanks to Sweden’s present prosperity. To be convinced of this you need only walk along the Strand-Vagen with its magnificent buildings whose gold-leaf reflection sparkles in the water. Mark 10/10.

AQUATIC

 

It is a commonplace observation but Stockholm bathes in the sea, lives in the sea, is transported on water. The Gamla Stan (the old town) is where you will find the Royal palace - an enormous building, testimony to the power of the Kings of Sweden - that has been the first view for centuries past that the visitor has had of the town. It is set on a little island with hanseatic houses surrounded by water. Touristy but worth doing. Mark 6/10

 

EMPATHETIC

 

I organised everything with the French tour operator Voyageurs du Monde (VDM) and overall everything went smoothly. The comfort of a Moscow-based concierge, who we could call at any time, was appreciated. On the other hand, regarding the level of explanations concerning the Trans-Siberian itself, I have the impression that VDM was rather behind. In fact the trip in first class was quite comfortable: a compartment for two with a sliding door with magnetic closure, spanking clean washbasins, and an employee at your disposal. Once again, all very clean. The description of VDM was rather apocalyptic, however, obviously from third class, and as shown in the pictures, we were rather closer to the holds of the Titanic. 8/10.

 

HARMONIOUS

 

Stockholm is certainly a very beautiful town. The mix of buildings and water gives a sparkling result and the buildings are seldom  ugly. There is a respect for conservation in the air that you can sense on the trams, the boats or just by walking about …Mark 8/10.

THE  Museum OF PHOTOGRAPHY, is a private museum and an institution. Founded in 2010 it has been a tremendous success and has become an unmissable part of the life of the town. Mark 8/10
